Sunday Email 34: Three Good News In Recession
If you're new to my subscription and wondering what is a "Sunday Email", it's an email full of my rants, personal tips and opinions on marketing especially in the "internet marketing" niche. Sometimes, opinions on life. Whatever it is... it'll give you value after spending time reading it. To make sure you won't miss any future issue, subscriber for free at http://www.sundayemail.com/
Whatever writing of mine that you're reading here DOES NOT affect buyers, only sellers (especially marketers selling internet marketing stuff). As a matter of fact, buyers will have more advantage now. And this is not a "Sunday Email" rant.
Re: Good News In Recessions?
With the current down economy going on, I don't think I want to write any rants in today's Sunday Email Series but instead, talk more positive stuff.:-) And if you THINK recession is not affecting internet marketing, I'm not going to spend the time to debate with you. Despite what you've read or heard from other marketers that YOU CAN MAKE MONEY in recession, part of them are true - but generally, I doubt it.
Call me a negative person if you want, but let point out this to you - an internet business is just the same as running an offline business but it's just using different a platform.
If people are not buying books in local bookstore, they are probably not buying books from Amazon.com too. Make sense?
Extracted from Wired.com:
The odds look pretty good that we'll see a recession this year, and as we learned last time around, that can't be good for commerce sites like eBay and Amazon.
While lots [of] online stores are poised for decent growth (especially as gas prices soar), Cowen & Co. analyst Jim Friedland thinks eBay and Amazon will get pinched as consumers curb spending. It's a pretty reasonable conclusion given that December sales results from national retailers were dismal.
Friedland notes that during the last recession, Amazon only grew North American revenue by 3 percent. To put that number in perspective, in 2006, Amazon grew North American revenue by 25 percent.
There are plenty to read about what's happening with real internet businesses (not those salesletter style stuff you've been seeing) on the internet- I invite you to read on your own research rather than hearing from your 'favorite' marketers that everything's going to be 'okay' and prosperous. This is a Sunday Email - I would rather tell you he truth than sugar coating the reality.
So let’s start with the first good news:
1. SuccessAndLife.com is now ranked on page #1 of Google.com for "personal improvement". Well, it's more like MY good news. J But the reason why I'm sharing this with you is to stress on a point - diversification. If you've diversified your internet businesses rather than just focusing on one profitable one during the good times, you would be okay even with the recession right now. This is just one of my many diversification of internet businesses that I have by using different business model and targeting different niches. In reality, I have at least 10 in my own portfolio. Lesson? It's not too late to start diversifying your internet business now.
2. I'm expecting my first baby next year! :-) I know you might not be bothered about this at all (but if you're sharing my happiness, do leave your comment below), it's good news in one shape or form. Lesson? There are many things happening in your life other than internet marketing or online business - appreciate the good ones.
3. You're going to get better values from the internet marketing marketplace now. With the bad economy, many wannabe gurus will run out of business soon and go back to their jobs. Sound kinda harsh right? But it's good news for you because you'll less lightly to be scammed anymore. :-) You see, most wannabe gurus don't have a real internet business- all they do is to sell internet marketing courses and products. Chances are, only the real gurus will overcome the recession because their internet marketing courses will still be purchased AND they're making money from other real internet businesses.
Also, you'll be getting better value from the courses made available because they might be sold at more affordable prices (because marketers still need to sell their products too) and since marketers will be competing more aggressively now, you'll be expecting to see higher quality courses.
4. Share your good news here. Do you have any good news you can share related to online business, internet marketing or anything you think it's good to share? Thousands read my blog so if you can impact a few, wouldn't that be awesome? I'm sure many wants to hear yours too.
For a change, let today's content comes from the readers too - besides, I would like to read some good news too. (smile)
If you've find value in these tips, please leave a Comment or feedback? Needless to say, I will definitely appreciate it because I read all Comments personally and gotten the chance to know you at the same time.
Thanks,
Patric

I just sent this post to a bunch of my friends as I agree with most of what you’re saying here and the way you’ve presented it is awesome.
I also blog from time to time on this stuff. In fact, here’s an
expert from my most recent blog post…
Since it’s easy to reach any kind of audience concerning any kind of business, the possibility of misuse is always there. Based on this Internet advertising is classified into two kinds of advertisement, legal online advertising and illegal online advertising. Legal online advertising includes online advertising directories, search engine advertising, e-mail advertising, and desktop advertising.
hope this helps the ads pot to

Hi Patric,
Nice to hear your good news about the little one - all the best to you and yours!
I have been online now for a few years now with a couple of sites and they are going from strength to strength but what I would like to share with others is a couple of free books for those that don't already have them...
Available from one of my sites www.theachieversmind.com are James Allans "As a Man Thinketh" and Napoleon Hill "Think and Grow Rich" both are classics that have helped me tremendously.
It really is true that "what the mind can peceive and believe it really can achieve!"

Having a new baby?
Cutie2....hahahahhh...congrats! :)
Yeah...Diversification is one of the most important not only in investing but also in business.
No business is recession proof.
All businesses will be affected by recession.
It will be how effectively,we as business owners will like to deal with this recession.
1) Positively
2) Negatively
Lets stay positive! :)

I noticed yesterday that gas prices are down, up here in northern MN. They were up to around $3.75/gal, now down to less than $2.50/gal.
I think to really succeed in a tight market, one has to really test and track their marketing. Find the things that work best, and max them out. My business is really just taking off, economy or no, so I don't care.
Sure it comes down to the retail customer, but if you can provide value for the buck, people will do it.
Hi Patric,
I really liked your post!! I like your perspective. We all make our own prosperity and wealth. Moreso by how we think about things
I may not be able to change a situation, but I can always change how I see it and think about it. In this way, I can make a seemingly disasterous situation work for me and not against me.
Look for my upcoming blog (Ain't Life Grand). Who knows, it just might change your life.
Love and Light,

Hey Patrick, congratulations to you and your partner. I wish her a safe delivery. I think I saw her in London when you guys came for the Secret Yellow Seminar.
I am working on something that could proove to be very good news for Internet Marketing in this period of economic recession. Promise to keep you posted.
Regards to your missus and the little one.
Thanks for the post Patric.
Congratulations on the new addition to the family.
I agree that online business will be affected as well as offline business. No one can say for sure whether they'll both be affected the same.
I beleive that there's a silver lining in every cloud, and with any downturn there's an opportunity to profit, one just has to look closely.

Congratulations on the pending new addition.
Yes things will tighten but there are still numerous opportunities for those that work hard and smart.
Here's some good news for you, Patric. It is the absolute BEST time to be a "cockroach"!
For an explanation, read Paul Graham's October post: "Why to Start a Startup in a Bad Economy".
http://www.paulgraham.com/badeconomy.html
Remember, the biggest threat to your business is not "The Economy", it's in the mirror. To be afraid is to be looking for excuses to fail. I remember well the "bad times" of 30 years ago and reading in a magazine then about a small company creating a BASIC interpreter on paper tape for a "hobbyist" microcomputer. Unless you were "into computers" (and not many were) that event was off everybody's "radar".
Can there be any doubt something as big as Microsoft is taking its first steps right now somewhere in the world?
Before closing, a heartfelt congratulations to you and your wife, Patric. Your life is about to change in ways more profound than those provided by your IM success.
Tomorrow, our first born will turn nineteen years of age. He shares his birthday with Bill Gates. And he was born in Redmond, Washington. I've always considered this auspicious. :-)
I guarantee the memory of holding your child for the first time will be with you always. And it will always seem like it was just yesterday. Even when they stand and look you in the eye.
May you have a lifetime of good memories to come.
