Sunday Email 32: About Pissing Others
If you're new to my subscription and wondering what is a "Sunday Email", it's an email full of my rants, personal tips and opinions on marketing especially in the "internet marketing" niche. Sometimes, opinions on life. Whatever it is... it'll give you value after spending time reading it. To make sure you won't miss any future issue, subscriber for free at http://www.sundayemail.com.
So if you can relate to what I wrote when reading it-- good because I know it had just served the purpose of helping people.
One more thing-- it'll offend marketers. I hope you're not the one.
Re: Pissing Others Is Not An Issue, REALLY
Do you piss other people online- your readers, customers, competitors or whoever?
If you're not, you're not doing a favor for your business.
You know Robert Kiyosaki, right? The guy who wrote Rich Dad, Poor Dad and became a 'guidebook' for people quitting their jobs. It's a bestseller book and you can always get a copy of it at amazon.com.
Here's the interesting part... do a search for his name in Google.com.
On page one of the result, look out for www.johntreed.com/Kiyosaki.html. You'll read some uncool stuff about Robert- it might make you laugh but if you're a strong believer of Robert's teaching, then it's going to annoy you.
The first thing you'll read on this page is this:
Summary:
Rich Dad, Poor Dad is one of the dumbest financial advice books I have ever read. It contains many factual errors and numerous extremely unlikely accounts of events that supposedly occurred.
The reason why Robert pissed off some people is because he HAS reached 'there' (not specifically referring to John's comments because he does has his own logic explanation). The point is, when you have become so successful, you're going to have people who like you and people who hate you for whatever reason regardless of whether they're correct or not. It's a fact, live with it.
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY- OR LIKE YOU. It can only happen if you only have 10 readers, subscribers or customers- not hundreds, thousands or millions.
So if EVERYONE likes you, you're in trouble dude because I would guess that you're not making as much as money as you could with so little reach.
It's the same thing if your product gets pirated. It's obviously very famous and high in demand. Just see how successful is Microsoft. (PLEASE don't leave a comment to debate about this issue with me here, it'll never end until the cows come home. I'm just stressing on a point about piracy.)
Or your content being stolen- like you blog about a certain topic and the next thing you know, it's on someone's blog but your name's not there anymore! :-) Anyway, I know who are the ones 'stealing' my content and they're reading my post here- AGAIN. This message goes to them: Learn to be creative for a change, will ya?
Look- there are a lot of people who not only dislike me, but hate me. And some get pissed when they read my Sunday Email.
Do I care? Of course! But we have to face the reality that you can't make everyone happy.
The deal is, make sure that those who like you is ALWAYS more than those who don't. Then you're covered and it's a sign that your business is growing.
This is important because of two things- you'll continue to have customers and you'll have those who will stand up for you. So make sure those who like you are being rewarded and get your attention.

Someone is kinda irritated (which is fine because this afterall, is a free World) because I sell a product at the end of my content. To be honest, I don't feel bad doing that at all because I know I'm making an offer to provide better solution.
As long as you have MORE people who like you, they'll "stand up" for you. Read the last comment replied by 'hui' and you'll know what I mean. (Thanks, Hui.)
So stop worrying if you've pissed or going to piss someone along the road to success. Shit happens. Just make sure that you're doing your best to add value and doing the right thing. Like, there will be some readers that get annoyed reading what I said today, but I think it's more important to communicate this message out to those who like it. Those who get it, get it. Those who don't, well, they might leave some nasty comments here. :-)
By the way, on a totally unrelated topic, I haven't been writing the Sunday Email Series lately. My last one was 6/22/08 which 77 days (that's over 2 months) ago. If you want to waste your time knowing what happened (smile), I took a 2-week vacation in Hawaii last month. Got a few pictures posted at my personal growth blog, www.patricchan.name. Hawaii's awesome.
And for business, I just launched a new product called, "Inside The Underground Marketing Lab Workshop" Home Course that you can see at www.insidemarketinglab.com. That's awesome too (if you want to find out how to make money online).
Here's the thing- if you enjoy reading Sunday Emails, can you do me a favor to leave a Comment? If I know there are a lot of readers, I'll do my best to make I write regularly. Please let me know.
Yours truly,
Patric Chan

Patric... I love your approach. Rich Dad Poor Dad is not a stupid book, Microsoft's tactics are questionable and people just need to get off their soap boxes. I like the way you think... and would like to continue reading your Sunday Rants! I think you just might be one of my next biggest heroes! he he I'll be keeping an eye on you!

Patric, I've learnt that people who write deliberately rude comments usually have some underlying issue themselves. You can disagree with someone without trying to tear someone down but it takes a mature person to know how to do this.
Sadly, some grown up just haven't grown up yet. Give them a dose of T. Harv Eker's 'Warrior' training for three days and the boys will come out like men.
Hi Patric,
I can only imgagine with your many successes there also comes the haters, the copy cats, and the ones who just don't get it even if you try to force feed them. I can remember a time when I freely gave someone some killer advice that would sky rocket his promotions and he sent me back a critique of my grammer! I just had a concept video stolen last week after approaching someone on a joint venture deal. They did not see the bigger picture with more profits for both of us and decided to just steal my idea. So These things do not really change how I conduct business with the intent of helping others but I know that not all people will ever have the same vision or ethics as most of us. One day I hope to meet you Patric and thank you for keeping me grounded and focused.
I read the Sunday emails - wondered where they'd gone!
Patric,
Your readers, like me, are full of praise for your expertise.
This blog/sunday-mail has put you at the bottom of my list for inappropriate language - what millions and millions across the world regard as swearing in public and what millions and millions will regard as blasphemy - using the founder of Christianity's name in vain.
It doesn't do!
Keep to decent language, please
Patric
I note that comment moderation has been enabled so don't expect my comment to be printed or even replied to.
However the language used in the blog gets in the way of the message. You are so much clearer when you don't used offensive language.
By the way did you know that "Geesh" is short for "Jesus" and is very offensive.
The blog is grand but would be more splendid if you used better language. It is sometimes, I find, a good idea to write out a rant with all the swear words in and then to change them to more acceptable good equivalents before posting the blog. Usually this method produces just as much punch - without the obscenities - as it did before they were replaced.
Yours ay,
Ted

Patric,
I'm glad you're back! I always look forward to your Sunday emails and I worry when they don't show, thinking something may have happened to you.
Do you have a twitter account? I know people get "carried away" with such tools, but it would be a quick way to see what you were up to, even if you only updated it once every few days.
I am really looking forward to pissing people off, Patric! :-) That is, if it comes with the territory of the "rich and famous", then "let the games begin"! I'm ready!
I've always said if I had my choice, I'd take rich over famous any day. But if they MUST go hand-in-hand for my success to manifest itself in this world, then so be it - a small price to pay.
And I think humor can just about always play a role in defusing and turning the tables on the "rabid dogs" of the Internet.
We all need to "lighten up", eh? Ya, things can be shitty. But we're here for a very short time. Life is such a precious gift. And then it's gone.
So when the slings and arrows start flying, all I can say is this:
More often than not, the way in which criticisms are presented says more about the critic than what or whom they are trying to criticize - way more!
And they are not even aware of it.

As always, Patric, you are dead on the money. Willie Crawford said we should narrow ourselves down to our top five and read nobody else. You are one of my five that I will keep forever as a "mentor"!
Make it a great day!

Yes, Patrick - please keep on with your Sunday pieces. Always appreciate your slant on things.
Dear Patric,
No doubt that people with zilch confidence in their own writing ability will rip off your writing and anything else they can grab.
Most of us know that such dishonesty will not lead to riches or respect - two main reasons for building a strong online marketing funnel.
However, why do gurus and wannabes make their material signature exclusively theirs? Those who have an affiliate program could easily set affiliate links to your site (s).
The main reason most people write articles is to gain search engine popularity and to gain credibility. What would be lost by putting an affiliate code in your signature? Why don't most marketers who have affiliate programs fail to see that logic?
Yours sincerely,
Richard Posner

Hi Patric,
Thanks for your emails.
Good to hear you enjoyed your holiday.
The cranky people who stoop pittifully low, attempting to belittle someones success, are unfortunate individuals who haven't got the guts to accept RESPONSIBILITY for paying the price for whatever success they would like to achieve.
But we can learn from everything and everyone and they are a good example of how NOT to think and be.
Looking forward to your future emails.
Have a fabulous day,
Olivia

In the past, I used to think that what I did was wrong. But I learned along the way after getting more positive feedbacks rather than the negative ones.
I might have pissed a lot of people too but, like you said, if there are more people appreciate what I do, then I should be fine.
In this world, there are many whiners and if we let them into our minds, we'll be as negative as they are. Blame on everything and everyone else but not themselves.
Fortunately, we also have lots of people who are focused on their goals and positive in life (like you, Patric). We'll just have to be close to these groups and stay away from the losers. At least this is what I do.

Hi Patric,
This post is really good! Yeah, we must accept the fact that not everybody will love what we do.
In fact, sometimes they will also disturb our business by doing something that can "hurt" us (hacking sites, giveaway our products etc)
As Zamri Nanyan said, we must not let them get into our minds or else we will never reach our dreams.
Thanks for your nice motivational article, Patric!
Life is like that.People will like you or dislike you, especially when you're success & famous. I once also dislike Patric. Because all his products are quoted in US$ which is very costly to me in Ringgit M'sia. But I did buy his product & read his articles and find him is not BS. I now like him & am is one of his fan though I'm not success in internet biz. I should say "Patric boleh".
Hey guys and gals,
Thanks for leaving your thoughts and comments! Although I cannot reply to all of your comments, I read every single one of them and it does help me to know I should write Sunday Email regularly. :-)
Hi Ted (Edward Baty),
Thank you for your feedback. Sorry if it's been offensive, it's never in any intention to be impolite. Again, my apology on that.
Hi MoneyMingle,
Thanks for your consistent comments on the blog.
Hi Richard Posner,
Good point from you. You see, many will just 'steal' others content because they have their own readers as well and need to come with great content, WITH THEIR NAME. If they keep on publishing others, then their credibility will start to fade out after some time. I hope this make sense.
Hi Zamri,
good to hear from you, my friend. :-)
And to the "Anonymous" poster who said he did not like me last time, thank you for your trust today.
Thanks,
Patric Chan
