Sunday Email Part 28
If you're new to my subscription and wondering what is a "Sunday Email", it's an email full of my rants, personal tips and opinions on marketing especially in the "internet marketing" niche. Sometimes, opinions on life. Whatever it is... it'll give you value after spending time reading it. To make sure you won’t miss any future issue, subscriber for free at www.sundayemail.com
You know-- sometimes my Sunday Emails can be harshed. Cuts through like a ninja's blade. But come on, they're my rants. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children.
So if you can relate to what I wrote when reading it-- good because I know it had just served the purpose of helping people.
One more thing-- it'll offend marketers. I hope you're not the one.
Feel Annoyed When Others Beat You?
Don't you hate it when others are doing better than you?
Come on, be real. You can say no if you want because it really doesn't concern me that much.
I got this thought to share with you because this is what I felt lately. You see, I've been slacking in my business and I think I've become less competitive in the internet marketing niche. Even in product launches, sometimes, I get to be in the top 10 list.
And I'll start to compare with other marketers that I know. Like darn, that guy's having another product launch today and mine's just at the conceptualize stage. Or another marketer just declares he made half a million each month.
So I'm comparing with marketers who are at higher level, same level and lower level.
Doesn't it make you feel uncomfortable when you're 'losing'? This is the part which I don't get it. YOU'RE NOT LOSING. You're minding other people's business!
If you can shut off the noises out there, I can bet that you'll do better.
When you're comparing to someone else's success or trying to achieve what he's getting, it'll be a good idea to check whether you have the same resources, network, experience, knowledge and team. Trying to emulate success and dreaming is two different things. You can WISH that you'll sell millions of books like Rich Dad Poor Dad as an inspiration but be practical of how many you'll be able to sell.
I get this all the time – people come to me and said they want to reach millions of people online or make $1,000 a day on autopilot from Adsense. The question is, what's your evidence that you can achieve that? There's a saying, 'A thousand mile starts with a single step' by Confucius.
And I can't blame this wishful thinking because they are trying to emulate those who have achieve that. Or, being 'brainwashed' by marketers who said they can because these marketers got to sell their courses or seminars. I get those as well when I first started out. Part of the cycle of 'growing up'.
I've become slack lately and I'm going to continue slacking. Why? Because I realized that I'm actually not making less money on the internet and I've become a less stressful dude. Ask my wife. The only thing is, I'm 'losing' to other marketers. But to think of it – why in the first place would I want to start an internet business? Yeah, to make money and have more time in life – not to 'win'.
It's something hard to let go but if you would just FOCUS on your own business and attempt to reach your own goal, I think you'll soar. First, it will not be a ridiculous goal. I mean, if you're making $5,000 a month from your job, you would probably hope that you can make $2,000 online first and hopefully, in a couple of months, it'll reach $5,000 so you can quit your job or something. Or still keep it because you actually enjoy your work. You see, you raise your bar to achieve $30,000because you see what others are achieving but in reality, you're not them.
Secondly, you'll not get distracted mentally and emotionally.
Don't believe me? Here's an example – you see your competitor using this latest strategy and you know he learns from a $997 course. Because you don't want to lose out, you bought the same course. The problem is, THIS MAY NOT BE part of your original plan. You might not need this strategy and your $997 could be invested into other course or tools that are align with what you're currently doing.
Of course, please DO NOT misinterprets this statement. You SHOULD buy the latest course because it'll give you the edge. If you don't upgrade your brain or use advance tools for your internet business, you'll be wiped out like dinosaurs. But always get from the reliable source and fit in to what you're doing right now.
Action plan:
1.Know what your business model is.
2.Set the outcome that you want to achieve.
3.Find the ways to reach it.
If there's a sentence to summarize today's Sunday Email, I'll say - mind your own internet business.
If you have been reading the "Sunday Email" series, I'll always ask for your favor to leave a Comment if you find value of what you've read. It'll be most appreciated because I read all of them personally. (smile)
And yeah, sometimes it upsets the reader because the truth can be... hurtful.

Hi Patric,
Boy can I relate, I used to run all over the place trying to emulate those "successful guru's" and wasted more time and money than I care to think about, although I look at it as lessons learnt. I now concentrate on my own niche business and if something comes along that will benefit that then sure I will buy it but not unless I have also unsubscribe from newsletters etc that do not aid me in my business boy saved a lot of time not having to read all those extra emails. I think it is good to strive but we do not have to compete there is plenty of room for everyone. Keep the Sunday emails comming I quite enjoy them

Hi Crystal Dragon,
Thanks for the comment.
Niche marketing will be the best business model and I highly encourage anyone to go into that.
It's important to stick with the 'guru' that you feel comfortable with. Of course, he has to be someone who is getting result from what he teaches.
I'll do my best to prepare another Sunday Email next week. :-)
Thanks,
Patric Chan

Hi Patric
Great article and point made. We need to focus on our own goals and that is why I want to get my basics right. I am currently in adsense and affilliate marketing with a full time job - results at the moment are nothing to shout about and i am learning and having fun.
Thanks a lot for the advice man.
Now I realized.. I am minding other people's business. Why is that fella earning USD 5000 per day. Why is that fella succeed and what did he buy / sell etc..
This not only distracted me and made me lose my focus.. it also halts my progress and as a result.. well.. I can't see any result on my part at all.
Your email this time though Patric.. made me realize that I should have just stick to my original aims (that is.. USD 5000 per month by the end of this year).. I should never have bother with those who manage to achieve USD 5000 per day.
Keep my forcus straight and watch over my progress like a hawk.. and I believe I will succeed.
Thanks a lot Patric for your email. :)
Patric, I know exactly what you're talking about!
It's been quite a while since we last met and I'm making over $3k/month from Internet Marketing now...
Not only that, people are finding me on google and asking to advertise on my site, to do JVs, sending me physical products to review and so on...
While I'm happy to some extent, I do find it hard not to go about comparing myself with other people who are experiencing success online...
That's why I can really resonate with this post.
Anyway, no matter what, I guess it's good because it spurs us on to achieve greater heights!
So with that said, keep on slacking and keep on making more money!
To our success,

Hi Patric,
Great Post! And I totally agree with you that when you know other marketers are doing well, or better than you, you get this "sour" feelings deep inside you.
I don't know why too, guess it's a culture issue, or personal mindset issue.
However, I'm glad to share that overtime, I do now focus a lot on my own internet business, and celebrate and congrats my friends who's doing well than I do.
My reason being, I want my fellow friends to celebrate my success too, when I achieve my successes. Right?
Look forward to chat with you soon!
To Your Success,
Roy Phay
Hi Patric..
I guess its natural to feel annoyed / jealous when others beat u.
imagine not having any feelings..tt would leave all of us just contend with what we have and never advance.
colleen..i agree with ur point about just unsubscribing for newsletterthat are not relevant. its truly distracting and makes u want to spend more than necessary.

Hye Patric,
Your post just come in time before i go to distract myself for another purchases online.. haha.. thanks man!
As usual, many of us are easily distracted (esp. with those attractive offers and sales letters) and we keep buying and buying without focusing on our actual and real needs.
Many times, we just buy for the sake of buying and buying to make us feel good. Well, what the hack? And we are the one who gonna suffer at the end of the day. No more crying over the spilt milk.
It is important to keep ourselves growing and continue to make alot of difference in our life instead of losing our focus to other people's success.
It is always good to praise and admire other ppl success (as I am very proud of you, Patric for being the Top Superstar in Internet Marketing Biz and You are Malaysian).. This open up alot of possibilities to us brother.
Keep it up the good work and hope to see you more often and more inspirational post in the near future.
Cheers,
Nick
Great post, and right on the money if you'll pardon the pun. I get sidetracked all too easily with all the emails I get, and end up wasting time on some free site, or on some get rich quick idea someone is trying to sell me with no value to helping me reach my targets.
Hope I can stay focused long enough now to get something done.
Hey Patric,
I've been reading your emails and they are very inspirational. You make a really good point. It's easy to waste time when people are always trying to distract you with "the most incredible system to make millions....." I'm going to focus on spending my valuable time on my own business!
Thanks Patric, keep it coming!
Thank you Patric for a wonderful and important reminder. To get out of our headspace of competition, and enjoy being in the Now, in the moment. By focusing on our own consciousness, improving ourselves and being the best we can be on our own terms, makes us better people and contributors to others. And reminding ourselves why we are in this business - to “enjoy” the lifestyle and the freedom.
Thank you again so much for your time, your generosity, and all the wonderful information you shared with Alex and me in our interview with you last week.
Keep up your great work!
Thanks
Kathy Baker
