Sunday Email Part 22

If you're new to my subscription and wondering what is a "Sunday Email", it's an email full of my rants, personal tips and opinions on marketing especially in the "internet marketing" niche. Sometimes, opinions on life. Whatever it is... it'll give you value after spending time reading it.

You know-- sometimes my Sunday Emails can be harshed. Cuts through like a ninja's blade. But come on, they're my rants. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children.

So if you can relate to what I wrote when reading it-- good because I know it had just served the purpose of helping people.

One more thing-- it'll offend marketers. I hope you're not the one.

I think this is going to be my last email to you for the year 2007.

How Hard Is It To Actually Make Money Online?

The better question is, are you an entrepreneur or not. An entrepreneur doesn't ask himself (or herself) a question like how hard it's going to be. Instead, he ALREADY know how much work is going to be involved but what he wants to know is how much he'll get back in return-- financially, spiritually and freedom of time.

You have heard stories how a marketer can make $10,000 or more overnight by just sending out an email. So some will buy courses about list-building to uncover the secrets and end up confused why they weren't making that kind of money with their list (if they did built one).

Don't be confused. You're on the right track. You just miss one element-- TIME. Time is an interesting topic to talk about because most people try to rush Time but this is something that's supposed to happen 'naturally'.

Those marketers that made tens of thousands by sending out an email is because they've been in the trench for months or years. They simply have one unfair advantage against you, Time. Time is used to grow their list and to build a strong relationship and trust with their subscribers.

Of course, there are leverages available to compliment Time like personal endorsement by others, personal proof of result, etc.

My point is, I don't want you to be frustrated if you didn't get what you suppose to achieve in 2007. At the same time, I'm not trying console you like a sissy. I want you to see things in a different angle and always evaluate your result in many perspectives because we live in a world full of varieties, especially when it comes to business.

By the way, there's no room for sissy when it comes to entrepreneurship. Maybe, one day, I'll write about entrepreneurship because entrepreneurs think and act differently.

What's The "Secret" To Internet Success In 2008?

It's still going to be the same, mailing list. List marketing will still be an effective method to generate consistent income to your business.

But you'll be using different ways to build a list because most marketers are already using the traditional ways. For instance, if you get a new subscriber from the old method like co-registration promotion, other marketers will probably be getting the same subscriber as well. Which also means, both of you will be competing to get the same mindshare.

With the new trend of web 2.0 and what's coming in 2008, there are so many new ways you can explore to get subscribers.

The next portion is making sure that you're having a 'conversation' with your subscribers. If you spend all of your time building a list but not having a relationship with them, what's the point? You can't turn your list into a business if no one's reading your stuff.

In my main niche of self-help, I'll make it a point to always deliver value to my readers. If you go my blog at www.patricchan.name, you'll notice that the posts are giving real content and people are benefiting from them (read the comments for proof).

"How Do You Give Value?"

This may sound weird to you-- in the internet marketing niche, there are marketers who don't give value AT ALL but keep on making promotions to their list and yet, they rake in more money than the value givers. If you're one of those marketers, I salute you. Sincerely, not sarcastically.

So really, the market's a bizarre place when it comes capturing the attention of your subscribers/customers.

Adding value is about giving real content that is helpful to the reader. That's why I do this Sunday Email 'rant'. You can notice that it's not geared to promote a product but each issue is written to give content, value. Nothing less. That's one of the ways how I give value to my subscribers and I know they did. Or else, why are they reading until issue 22 now.

Actually, you can give value while selling a product as well. Isn't it giving value when you add more free bonuses if your subscribers purchase from your affiliate link?

So to think of it, adding value is very subjective but it narrows down to the fact of how you position yourself as a 'helper' to your prospect.

"What Should I Learn To Make Massive Income In 2008?"

Who knows. But I do have one recommendation-- First, have focus of what you want to accomplish in 2008. Don't have crappy goals like, "I want to make money online in 2008." What sort of BS is that? That's the darn goal that EVERYONE HAS.

Be specific. Like, "I want to make money from eBay.com, generating $5,000 a month."

Now, that's a better.

So what you need to learn about making money from eBay.com?

Tons of them but at least you'll know what. Then you don't have to waste your time trying to learn search engine optimizations or how to do affiliate marketing because they're not relevant.

But one thing you need to learn regardless of what's your goal-- you got to learn how master your own self. Called it self-improvement or whatever. If you don't have what it takes, you're not going to stay long in this game. Don't like that truth? Well, it's better you know it from the horse's mouth today then hearing from a snake oil salesman that tries to sell you another empty promise.

The fact is, you WILL be faced with failures. I know this because not all of my online projects were home runs.

I don't want to write too much in this issue. Not because I'm lack of words, it's because Starbucks closing now and I'm using their internet. :-)

You "Chan" Do It and Happy New Year!

What would a guy do without Starbucks? Great post once again Patric. Interesting thing about the question of "Are you an entrepreneur or not? Tons of people unfortunately come into online marketing under the pre-conceived notion that it is easy, and not much work has to be done to get to where they want.

It is easy to fall into this trap I guess, with all of the sales pages that promote this type of thinking. It's rather unfortunate really.

I feel, personally, the question that a true entrepreneur usually asks himself is. "How do I overcome the obstacles to get to where I'd like to be?"

There is always an answer somewhere, the true entreprenuer will seek this out until he finds a way to overcome his problem.

Cheers once again, and Happy New Year Patric!

All right,

I'll give more quality content.

But ... if we keep on giving content, then when to sell?

Hi Patric,

One thing I want to achieve in 2008 is to make Starbucks open for you 24 hours a day.

Wooo Hooo!

Happy New Year!

Hi Raymond,

Good point. Everything have to be balanced.

You should have good content that's made available for free because if you don't have, then your product might not be good enough to be sold in your marketplace.

Imagine if your competitor is selling the content that you're able to give free, your paid product will be perceived to be many times better.

The question is-- when to sell?

The best answer is when the market wants to buy from you. Of course, this answer is very abstact in nature because to know when it is time to sell, we'll need to know your market, your product, your positioning, your relationship with prospect and other elements included in it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with being specific as to what you want to happen.

This allows you to focus and know what will help accomplish that task and what is a distraction.

List building will continue to be important but using the Web2.0 methods to drive that traffic will become increasingly important too.

People joining my list from my blogs and Squidoo leneses and such are much more responsive to my message as the relationship and credibility is already there from the beginning.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the Comment.

It's far more better to follow the trend than creating the trend. Web 2.0 will be a good leverage once we understand how does the concept can be applied to internet marketing.

Good post! Online content isn't enough - you must have unique online content. The content may have been discussed somewhere else vefore but you need to put those content into your own words. If you have no time, considering geting a freelance writer to create your content. There's something that many also overlook -Giving your web visitor a different mode of paying you, for your product. Not everyone has credit cards. This is something that websites may not be able to automate. In any online business, you still need a personal touch so people will not feel they are served by email-robots. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion! :)

You can start selling right away (with a few chapters or a few paragraphs) being the FREE content in ebook format. Or....Free content for all, the rest of "paid content for members" in your own membership website.
