Sunday Email Part 10

It's been a while since I wrote the Sunday Email edition. Life's been busy. But anyhow, I'm going to continue with it because I'm really enjoying writing it. This is the only chance I get to rant about internet marketing and people reading it. Yeah, some will complain-- but who cares? So why are you reading my rant? (smile)

Please note that there are going to be grammar errors here. If you're offended, my sincere apologies in advance. If not, have fun reading it.

I Cannot Figure It Out And I'll Never

You should know what a "backlink" is by now. If not, you got to do your own reading coz I won't have the space to explain it here. Basically, a general rule of getting higher ranking in the search engines especially Google.com is to get more backlinks.

If your domain name is mydomainname.com and a website with the domain name theirdomainname.com has a link to your site, you got a baclink. Simple as that.

More of that being said by Google at www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=40349&ctx=related

But did you know that there are many sites getting higher ranking in Google.com with LESS backlinks than their competitors?

I have a page with only 3 backlinks and yet it ranks higher than a page with 130 backlinks. This is a real case.

How did this happen? Honestly, there are just too many variables involved. There could possibilities that my webpage have better keyword density, accurate title tags, correct content that matches the requirement, etc.

I still don't get it for those who try so hard to crack the search engine optimizations (SEO) secrets.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not putting down those courses that teach you about SEO. They are doing a great favor to share with you what WORK FOR THEM. And they deserve to be paid for that.

But I like to stick with marketing stuff that I have more control to them. Unfortunately, most marketing methods with control are not free. Like Google Adwords.

I'm not the king of Google Adwords and I don't claim to be. There are many pros you can learn from but I'm sure that I know a thing or two about it. See below and you'll notice that I've been using Adwords since 2003. I just didn't bother to teach because like I said, there are many pros out there already teaching.

Picture's too small to see? Click here.

If you see Campaign #22, I've generated 21,636 clicks. There's nothing to brag at all because whoever who are willing to spend a lot of money, they can generate AS MANY clicks as they want. But look carefully and you'll see that I was able to bid at $0.05 cents per click only. Now, that's something I'm proud of for knowing the 'game'.

You see, I can 'control' this marketing technique. As long as I know what I'm doing correctly, there's no doubt I'll get my traffic. The rest is history. But if I do every single damn thing I'm suppose to do to get high rank in search engine, there's still a possibility that I won't achieve success. And any SEO geeks or pros reading my rant will argue with me. Honestly, I can't be bothered because THIS IS a rant. I have nothing to lose, or win.

Another method that will never be obsolete in marketing is doing joint venture promotions. Five years from now-- I bet that you can still do joint ventures like nobody's business.

You see, I like to focus on what I do best and strengthen on it. I think you should to but it's your choice. If you're a SEO pro and getting darn good results, stick to it. Be a master. And probably, I can learn from you one day.

I Know Why He Doesn't Make Good Money

I have a coaching client. Let's call him Barney.

Barney sells USB drives online. Yeah, the one that you use to store files. Some people call them "pendrives". Whatever. He sells a truckload of 'em.

You see, selling physical electronic goods on the internet can be very challenging especially if they are electronic products which use memory devices. The price fluctuates like crazy.

Well recently, he wasn't getting enough sales because a smart-alec company in China goes into price war and drops the price. Since it's pretty much a commodity product that you can buy ANYWHERE (even bestbuy.com sells it), price IS the main concern. Wait. Before you want to jump on to tell me about USP and stuff like that, please hold your breath. Trust me, I know those stuff and WE ARE ALREADY DOING THAT.

How we get traffic? Yup, Google Adwords.

But that's not the point. The point is, Barney isn't too happy because he's not making good money.

So Barney gets me in the picture to 'fix' his problem.

I asked Barney, "How many customers you have?"

Barney says, "A lot."

And I reply, "What you do with them?"

Barney: "Nothing because I'm focusing to get more sales".

You see, Barney is so "focus" on getting new sales, he did not sit down and think what's the purpose he's selling USB drives for.

So I asked him, "Why you wanna sell USB, dude?"

"To make money, duh." He replied.

"So why in the world are you stuck on trying to sell USB drives to new customers when you have a list of previous customers that you can sell to them NOW while waiting to get your memory chip's price lower to be produced?" I make Barney looks really silly.

After that, Barney sits down with me for about an hour and I ended up drafting his overall marketing plan to increase his sales. Of course, Barney writes me a nice 5-figure check for what I've shared with him.

That's call, backend selling.

Increasing profit doesn't have to be focused on selling to new customers. Sell to your old or existing customers. They are already pre-qualified.

If you don't want to write me a nice 5-figure check for teaching this to you but still like to see your online profit double, triple or maybe, quadruple-- get my latest course at http://www.thebackendmastery.com

The Big Mansion Picture

I really have to rant on this one because it's strictly annoying and very unethical.

I think it was last month when I saw a salesletter from a marketer who sells some "how to make money from Google Adwords" course with the picture of big mansion-- saying that IT is his mansion.

Sometimes, there is a sports car or a yacht.

You see, it's TOTALLY FINE to use those luxury stuff to motivate the reader IF THE MARKETER REALLY OWNS them.

But the thing is-- many crappy marketers are saying that they owe these mansions, cars, yachts, castles, girls or whatever that blings in your face without any proof at all! I mean, that's insane. It's like standing beside Bill Gate's house and takes a picture. Then, post it on their website and say, "I make so and so much money and I now I have my own mansion. with 20 maids in it."

You know what's the secret to making millions online? Ask those who made it. They might have the answer and it'll be different from each different internet millionaire.

Who Will Bail Me Out Of Jail?

When I was driving back home yesterday from a BBQ, I thought of my friends. And I've learn how to determine who are my true friends from reading from a book last time-- Here's how... just ask this question to yourself:

"If I'm outside of my country and I'm in jail, who would I call that I know for sure that they'll be there to bail me out?"

I'm not surprise that you'll probably end up with a handful of them only. These are your true friends.

And you can relate this to joint venture partners. There are those that you know for sure that will help you if you need them to promote your product launch. Not because of money-- but because it's YOU. The relationship you have with them. Identify them and make sure that you treat them very well with your heart.

Let them know how much you appreciate their support and always do something for them in advance before asking for any help. This is the law of reciprocal taught by Robert Cialdini in "Influence - The Psychology Of Persuasion".

If you have been reading the "Sunday Email" series, I'll always ask for your favor to leave a Comment if you find value of what you've read. It'll be most appreciated because I read all of them personally. (smile)

This is a great post, Patric :D

Sometimes I really wonder whether doing SEO is worth the effort as search engines are always altering and updating their algorithms. It also seems that Google is trying to do something with text links as well.

I saw that Google Adwords product you mentioned. There was a huge commotion about it and many people were questioning about the mansion.

The problem is you can't really tell whether the big house, car or whatever really belongs to someone or not.

Hi Patric,

that was a good rant with a lot of information about revenue generating ideas. I'm pleased you had a go at the guys who peddle questionable products. There are too many of them around.

Regards

Tim
