3 Overlooked Ways To Get Traffic
Tell them what you know and they'll come to your site
Yahoo has a service called the Yahoo Answers at http://answers.yahoo.com. It's a brilliant traffic generation strategy that applies the “authority” marketing concept.
Here's how it works...
You go to Yahoo Answers website and find questions that are in your niche. Read the questions there and I'm not surprise that you'll know the answers. Provide a valid answer and post a link to your website in the "resource" area under your answer. This directs a ton of traffic as many people are now using Yahoo Answer to get their questions answered. On top of that, you have just become an instant 'expert' of your niche.
Get traffic from auction sites
I know you have heard of this before but I’m going to put a unique twist to it. Let's say, you sell a set of tea cups for $59. Instead of selling the set, sell just one of the cups for $3 or something like that. I bet that you’ll get more sales and also, more bidders.
But you might be thinking...
"I'll make lost if I sell it for $3."
You're right. If you're counting profit based on the sale of the cup-- short-term. But if you can get 100 new visitors to your website from this auction, did you realize that you have just attracted highly targeted traffic for $0.03 per visitor only? I bet you can never get this kind of price if you’re buying traffic from pay-per-click search engines.
Same thing applies if you're selling a 100-page course. Break it down to a small 10-page report. Sell it at a low price to get generate leads. You can then sell the 90 pages later on.
Maxing out the features of your blog
Get a blog. It's a good traffic generator. Let's say you already have one, there's one thing that several blog owners missed out to do and they are losing a lot of free traffic...
Make sure your blog have a RSS feed.
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". As far as I know, every blogging software comes with an RSS feed feature. This RSS feed allows people that like your blog to be automatically updated every time you post to your blog. Now, if you have readers doing that, you'll increase your website "stickiness" and also, encourage return visitors. They'll be updated automatically whenever you have new posts.
If you use blogger.com, youll be automatically listed in Google's http://blogsearch.google.com. How good is this?
Try searching for "success tips" and see what's the url listed #1. :-)
Not only that, you can submit your RSS feed to every social bookmarking service to get traffic from them. If this sounds too techny for you, just ignore it. Don’t worry, it's not very important. :-)
Extra Traffic Tip (This will only work if you have your own product):
Using MySpace.com. People join Myspace to network and have fun, but you'd be surprised how many join to learn. There is a ton of information available on Myspace to anyone looking for it, in Myspace Groups.
To find the best groups, you need to look under categories that would have groups related to your website. Next you need to narrow down your search to a few specific groups, preferably ones with the most members to reach the most people. When you visit a group page you will see forums and group bulletin posts.
Contact the leader or group moderator to let them know you have a product that would be of interest to the members of their group. If you have an affiliate program, offer to make them money as an affiliate for anyone that buys from you through their specific affiliate link. You have now given them a reason to recommend your product(s) to the members of their group. This equals huge money for you depending on how large their group is and how attractive your product is to that group.

Hey Patrick,
Thanks for the information. I love your blog and have been following it for sometime now. I always find wonderful, usable info. here.
To go with your suggestion about using auction traffic, ebay is now allowing classified ads at $10, a month. You can link from the auction directly to your site.
Thought your visitors might like that bit of info.
Anyway have a great day,
Kenney

Hi Patric,
thanks for the ideas... great. Just had a quick question about ClickBank maybe you could answer.
I know in CB you can sell your own different products, but you can only have one listing per account. Does it cost me another $50 to open another account (if I have another product of mine to promote) do you know? Hopefully not :-)
Love your thoughts... and any ideas/thoughts you might have about my most recent product most welcome :-)

Thanks a million,
