Where to get free content

Whether you're planning to use content
for your info-product or publishing it
on your website, I can tell you where to
get them for free.

Ok, pay me 50 bucks for that. (smile)

Just kidding. Actually, what I'm going
to share with you for free will probably
worth more than 50 bucks.

You can get free content from public domain.

What does "public domain" mean?

Public domain is any work that is NOT
protected under US copyright law. This
includes ALL works published before 1923
AND, under certain conditions, works
published up to 1978. A 'work' can be
anything: a book, a play, music, photographs,
movies, instruction manuals, courses,
reports, posters, etc.

Isn't that cool or what?

Drumroll...

Here are 6 sites where you can find
public domain content:

http://www.gutenberg.org/

http://www.ipl.org/reading/books

http://www.digital.library.upenn.edu/books/

http://www.eldritchpress.org/

http://www.bartleby.com/index.html

http://wikipedia.org/ - An encyclopedia and
free content for your web site. According
to the site:

"The license we use grants free access to
our content in the same sense as free software
is licensed freely.

That is to say, Wikipedia content can be
copied, modified, and redistributed so
long as the new version grants the same
freedoms to others and acknowledges Wikipedia
as the source. Wikipedia articles therefore
will remain free forever and can be used by
anybody subject to certain restrictions,
most of which serve to ensure that freedom."

You think that's it?

Nope. Public domain can be in all sort of
format -- printed documents, audio recording,
video recording, software, etc.

Here are 3 more sites where you can get
free content to use that are related to
audio recording:

http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/categories/2

Ok. I know you might get excited with so
many websites to explore right now.

But, hold on.

Before you use any of the public domain content,
you need to know some stuff about copyright
issue. Then you should read the terms and
conditions for using them that are stated
at each of the website above.

General copyright information can be found at:

http://www.copyright.gov/

I'm not a lawyer so I can't give you any
advice about copyright issues. But it'll worth
your time to explore this source of free
content because ... they're FREE! And some
of them are real good quality stuff.

I guess, this email will you keep you busy
throughout your weekend now. (smile)

Excellent info Patric. You can also supplement some public domain info with forum comments.

I had some PD info that I thought needed "dressing up". I asked some questions in a relevent forum and got lots of comments and suggestions.

I edited the forum stuff and put it in the preface to the PD material and had a finished product.

I enjoy your blog and emails. Keep up the good work. I always get quality content from you.
